A member of the pepper family, cubeb has a peppery, bitter, pungent flavour that’s tinged with a hint of allspice and nutmeg. Cubeb Pepper would go well with meat, cheese and vegetable dishes. It may be substituted for pepper in spice mixtures such as quatre-épices for flavouring patés, sausages and baked goods such as spice biscuits. As with other pepper, grind as necessary with a mortar or pestle or spice miller.
